If you've powered up your cellphone on a USB cable plugged into your computer then you know that USB cables carry power. USB 2.0 carries 2.5W and current iterations of USB 3.0 carry 4.5W. That's about to change. The USB 3.0 Promoter Group has just released an extension of the USB standard that allows for 100W of power. That's enough to power up a laptop. Maybe USB jumper cables will be in our future?
